It was Female's in Football week and our focus is on our Women's teams in this edition of the Weekly Wrap.
We'll start at the top with our Women's United, they hosted Waverley City in a clash of undefeated teams, in what was the VCFA Match of the Round. Our girls were amazing and after a hard fought, end to end encounter, were able to come away with a tough and important 1-0 win with a goal to Janae Tankard settling it. Thank you to Waverley for always bringing the fight.
Our Women's Blues fought hard for their 2-1 win against Monbulk Kookaburras, allowing our girls to pick up their second win for the season, and moving them up the ladder. It was a brace to Titi Mudziviri that ultimately decided the game, and that was fresh of her bagging 4 goals in a 4-0 win in her Under 16's match earlier that day. She really knows how to find the back of the net
It was another a strong result in a bounce back game for our United Reserves against Mooroolbark, with goals to Luke Del Vecchio, Brayden Tankard and Thomas Esslinger sealing a 3-0 away win.
Our Blues Reserves had a cracking win under their new coach Jaimie Mcneil, coming out 4-0 victors against Northern Eagles with Nick Baker scoring and Ryan Paul bagging his first senior hattrick Congratulations Ryan!
It was a gritty and hard fought 2-1 win for our Cruisers, with James Poulos scoring again (he's making it a habit) and Munir Safi scoring on debut. The result sees our Cruisers move up to 5th on the table in Division 1, which is a great effort.
Finally our Thunder had a fantastic 5-1 win against BNFC Wolfpack. Jake Mandarino scored a hattrick and there were also goals for Miles Adamson and Ashton Ho tu nam. Well done guys!
Our United and Blues teams couldn't get the chocolates, but will work hard on the track ahead of big games this coming weekend! GO BERWICK!
We're out here celebrating, and you're invited
Obviously we couldn't celebrate our 50th Anniversary last year like we wanted to, so we're throwing a BIG party this year! Our Family Festival will run ALL DAY on Saturday 5th June and we want YOU to come celebrate with us!
We'll have activities running all day including live matches, live music, face painting, Melbourne City stall and activities, plus there will be plenty of food and drinks to purchase
RSVP to the event so we can get a feel for numbers, you're free to come and go as you please throughout the day and evening.
We cannot wait to see you there
Our Under 11 United and Spirit teams were well represented last Thursday night at Aami Park for Melbourne City’s clash against Adelaide United
It was an amazing experience to be involved in the McDonald's Half-time Hero’s mini games
How amazing to see our club represented on an A-League stage!
It was Derby Day for our Under 18’s this past Saturday, with our 18’s United just a bit too strong for our 18’s Blues in a competitive encounter.
Blues coach Jason K Adamson was incredibly proud of the fight and determination by his players, saying ‘Our lads played well against older, seasoned opposition. We have 3 or 4 new players who are progressing nicely and my boys gave 100% effort, and that’s all I can ask!’
Well done to both teams on representing Berwick in a tough but respectful manner
Our U15 United continued their unbeaten run with a 4-0 win away at Knox Strikers. It was at times a scrappy game in difficult and windy conditions. Captain for the day Kristian Brkljac nearly had the perfect birthday present early on but unfortunately his shot rattled the crossbar
The goals finally came through young guns Cayden Lai, Aditya Hareesh Kumar, Sam Stephens with his first for the side, and Bradly Bettiol with his second goal direct from a corner this season
We’re incredibly appreciative of the amazing support from our rugged up parents
Our players are so grateful to hear the chorus from the sideline week in week out.
Assistant Coach Kevin Bettiol and his whiteboard looking quite the man about town too
It was a huge day for another of our junior teams this weekend, with our Under 13’s United notching their first win of the season!
United coach Stephen Mouette was effusive in his praise of his team, saying ‘A superb team effort on the weekend resulted in a first win for the season for our United U13’s. It has been a tough start to the year with a steep learning curve for the new and first-time players, but a great attitude and willingness to work hard has now resulted in well deserved on-field success.
A well-executed free kick goal and a clean-sheet saving goal line clearance were a couple of highlights, but the most pleasing aspect of the game was that every single player contributed significantly to the win. Well done U13’s
We welcomed some new faces and some returning ones to the club this week, with club debuts for new players Nick Lamanna, Sunny Benjamin and Dillon Gosai and season debuts for returning players Oliver Nichols, Gustavo Fernandes and Brian Valdez. It's great to have you on board guys!
Our result of the round this week is our United Reserves vs Knox Pride, with Coach Alexander David having this to say about the game:
'Heading into the weekend we knew we'd have our work cut out for us against Knox. As the whistle blew for kick off it became clear very quickly that we would have to work for our 3 points. The boys were up to the task and defended resolutely with goalkeeper Samuel Green being rarely tested by the opposition. After creating a few chances Nathan Harper was able to take advantage of a mix up in the Knox defence and score a scrappy goal. The boys held on till the end and we came away with the 3 points and bragging rights in a very important game. Daniel Retamal and I asked for effort from the team this week and full credit to the boys they did not disappoint '
In Division 4 our Thunder boys had another impressive win, with Jake Mandario continuing his goal scoring form with a brace, Luke Hamilton scoring a 25 yard banger for his first senior goal and Alex Groza doing it on the pitch as well as off the pitch, by netting as well. Thunder running out 4-1 winners on the day.
Our Women's United team kept rolling this week with a solid 6-0 win. Another
hattrick to Nicola Westwood and singles to Lana Bonnet, Antonia Grunzu and Bronwyn Maidment sealing the deal.
There were a few games ending with losses in the books this past weekend, but we're highlighting two of them because of the fight and determination shown.
Our Blues team took on the top of the table Knox Strikers in the MPL2 and after trailing 2-0 at half time, battled back to level it at 2-2, and despite falling 4-2 at the last hurdle, it was a tremendous effort from the team. Brian Valdez scoring a brace in his return.
It was similar for our Women's Blues who faced off against the undefeated BNFC Phoenix, and ran them all the way to the final whistle, but fell just short, losing 4-2 in a gallant defeat. Goals to Titi Mudziviri and Grace Kidd.
